Quote: The next step, which I’m sure somebody will propose soon enough, is to give the entire population MRIs to see if they’re interested in kids and throw them in jail right then and there.

And maybe while they’re testing for that they might also check up on some other things.

Does the sight of a naked man intrigue you?

Do you respond positively to a photograph of George W. Bush?

Do you recognize this type of smokeable weed?

Given enough terrorizing of the populace, I can well imagine people sending their neighbours to fMRI and other tests.

“Look, if we can save even one innocent child, surely it’s worth letting the government evaluate people to make sure they’re not bad. It’s all safe and scientific. Hey, it’s not like they cut into you with a scalpel, so stop whining.”

If and when our governments start looking for “thoughtcrime”, I think I’ll move to an igloo in the arctic.

I’ve occasionally thought bad thoughts. Now I really do have something to worry about.

The more frightened people are, the easier they are to control.

We’ve had colour-coded “threat level” warnings. We’ve got unwinnable wars on terrorism and drugs. We’ve got TV shows like “Cops” that gleefully focus on the unfortunate.

The list goes on and on; we’re fed a steady diet of nightmares. Is it any wonder people are scared?

I’m not saying there is some cabal out there who have decided they need to keep everybody nervous. I doubt it’s that pre-planned and deliberate. I’m just reporting what I see.

I wonder what the next witch-hunt will be? We’ve already done Recovered Memories, and it’s no fun bashing Communism any more. I guess somebody will think up something.
